Athletes in The Hockey Strength and Conditioning program will learn how to properly perform variations of weight room, plyometric, and speed exercises specifically designed to improve on-ice performance. BPC athletes will be exposed to dozens of our grueling Functional Hockey Training (FHT) exercises. These exercises increase strength, speed, and power and have proved to efficiently transfer attributes gained in the weight room directly to the ice.
Some of the exercises include:
- Sled drags: Multiple variations of sled drags target specific muscles that are fundamentally weak in hockey players. Drags improve muscular balance, lower body strength, power and speed.
- Farmer Walks: Develops true functional core, hip knee and ankle stability and strength.
- Sledgehammer and Other Rotational Devices: Hockey players shoot either right or left handed causing muscles imbalances in the trunk. Rotational training restores balance, increases shooting power and skating speed.
- Tire Flips: Tire flips strengthen the hamstrings, glutes, low back, and grip. Tire flips help increase over all strength, speed, and explosiveness.
Like the SPARQ program, the Strength and Conditioning program will focus on accomplishing the following tasks:
- Increased functional strength
- Linear, lateral, & change of direction speed enhancement
- Develop explosive shooting power
- Increased flexibility/correct muscle imbalances & decrease risk of injury
- Nutrition Program for increased energy/enhanced muscle growth
- Faster recovery between shifts and games
- Gain 15-20 lbs. or muscle & achieve optimal body composition for hockey
The strength and conditioning program will offer three different programs:
- Bronze Program: The athlete will train 3 days a week
- This will offer a program that is constructed around full body workouts.
- Silver Program: The athlete will train 4 days a week
- This program will allow athletes to put on muscle faster. Workouts will be constructed around different body areas versus full body workouts.
- Gold Program: The athlete will train 5 days a week
- The 5th day allows athletes to have a rigorous day focused primarily on conditioning by using Energy System workouts.
All athletes will with go through BPC’s world renowned Advanced Athletic Assessment. This unique way of testing allows our professional PICP certified coaches to evaluate any areas of potential injury and the weakest parts of the body for each athlete. After analyzing the Advanced Athletic Assessment, a workout will be constructed for each individual. This regiment will constantly change throughout the program to create continuous stress and demand on the athlete’s muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and nervous system.
